Went running by the lake for the first time in months Tuesday night. I made it about 2 miles before any sharp pains in my shin. My doctor told me to stop running at the first sign of pain, so I walked a bit longer.
At first I wasn't going to go. I was sitting in my apartment in full running gear, petrified. I couldn't get my body out the door. All the old fears of feeling stupid and being worried about how I look when running came rushing back to me. I went and got the ziploc bag I saved with words of inspiration from last year's marathon, took each one out, and read them all. Seeing the amazing things my friends and even strangers said about me running made me realize it didn't matter how I looked, it just mattered that I was out there. So I tucked in my favorite sage advice in my running pack, and walked out the door.
Running, music pulsing through my body, feeling strong as my feet pounded against the pavement, felt so amazing. As I was finishing the run and waiting for the bus, a rain shower exploded around me, and here I was, standing on the beautiful museum campus, the Chicago skyline behind me, under a giant oak tree soaking wet and grinning like an idiot, completely in love with my running and that moment. I just forgot how alive running makes me feel. It just felt so amazing.
It feels good to be back. Run Lisa Run is back on the course...
Now if only this damn leg will stop acting up. Hrmph. Come on feet (well in this case shin), don't fail me now!

is this thing still on?
Sigh. I never could follow through on keeping up with things like blogs, resolutions, ambitions, or running.
I was suppose to start training for the marathon last week. I still have yet to run. I had an MRI done on my still bothersome left leg, and they told me I should get some rehab, that it wasn't cracked or fractured, but it was inflamed. I don't have money or time for rehab, so I'm hoping for the best. My doctor says as long as I ice it and stop running if I have intense pain, I should be alright.
I really need to get back into routine and order, and back to running could do just that. My life has just been complete chaos thus far this year, and I need to get order restored.
So welcome back Lisa to your running blog. Get your butt in gear, lace up your shoes, and back out on the lake front you go to running.

Here we go again...
Well, hello again. Since I last saw the interweb, I have been resting the good old shin, trying not to piss it off because tomorrow starts the longest period of running EVER!
Ok, so I'm being a tad bit dramatic, but tomorrow marks the start of 1/2 marathon training. Hurrah! It's a bit of a lackluster start, with just stretching and strength on Mondays, but Tuesday I get to run 3 miles, so we'll see how the shins do then, and see what type of training the next few months will be (either "yay my shin is fine" or "WTF GET BETTER LEG" months of training).
Feel free to join along in the training, as I mentioned in the previous post. What's more fun than running a ridiculous amount and conversing about it online with a stranger, right?
So back to why tomorrow marks the longest period of running EVER...
You're probably saying, "what are you talking about Lisa, this is just a damn 1/2 marathon, no biggie."
Well folks, did I mention that I merge directly into marathon training after Indy 1/2 marathon? Yup. I do. As of tomorrow I will be consistently training until mid October. Wowie. That is a long time.
But I digress, I am looking forward to the challenge and journey of training again, and especially excited because I have a few friends (and good old Dad again) training with me! Yay!
So keep Me, my Dad, my friends (Erin, Sammie, David) in your thoughts and running prayers, and keep checking back in, because I'll be back blogging as of now. VACATION FROM RUNNING IS OVER! GET A MOVE ON LISA!
Are you pumped yet just reading this? Because I sure am!
Ok, off to bed and then up to do my S&S (stretch and strength) before work! Here we go...
-Lisa
PS Me and Dad got spots in the Chicago 2008 Marathon already , so hopefully I'll see everyone there :)
